Walking is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to improve health, enhance well-being, and boost energy levels. As we prepare to take part in National Walking Day and National Walking Month, there’s no better time to highlight the benefits of Walk With Ease (Self-Directed), a program designed to make walking a sustainable and pain-free part of your daily life.

What Is Walk With Ease (Self-Directed)?

Walk With Ease is a program created by the Arthritis Foundation, to help individuals—whether they suffer from arthritis or simply want to develop a healthy habit—incorporate walking into their routines safely and effectively. The self-directed version of the program allows participants to set their own pace with the program, while still benefiting from a structured plan.

By committing to at least three walks of 10-40+ minutes, per week over a six-week period, participants can:

✔   Reduce pain and discomfort from arthritis.
✔   Improve balance, strength, and walking speed.
✔   Gain confidence in their ability to stay active.
✔   Enhance overall health and well-being.

The program includes a workbook (provided by the ADRC) that provides guidance, resources, and education, making it easy to track progress and stay motivated.

Kickstart Your Walking Habit on National Walking Day

National Walking Day, celebrated on the first Wednesday of April, is the perfect opportunity to commit to Walk With Ease (Self-Directed). This day serves as a reminder of the many health benefits of walking, from strengthening the heart to reducing stress. If you’ve been thinking about getting more active, why not start your journey to better health on this national day of movement, by committing to take part in Walk With Ease?

Build Long-Term Habits During National Walking Month

May, recognized as National Walking Month, is dedicated to promoting walking as a fun, sustainable, and accessible form of exercise. For those who start Walk With Ease in April, this month can serve as a powerful checkpoint—helping you maintain momentum, celebrate your progress, and set new goals for staying active beyond the program.
